About

Company history

The Dutch shipyard Bloemsma & van Breemen dates back to 1974 when Jachtwerf Bloemsma was founded in Makkum, Friesland. It took orders for hulls and superstructures in steel and aluminium from other shipbuilding companies. In 1997 the firm has passed in the property of Nico van Breemen, the owner of firm on installation of the ship equipment.

The combined resources enabled Van Bremen to build custom yachts on its own and the company received its current name. However, the shipyard did not stop taking on subcontracts from other companies, such as Feadship or Claasen. The shipyard started building classic sailboats, which were designed by Hoek Design.

In all, since 1974 the shipyard has built over 140 different yachts.

Status

In 2016 the yard was acquired by Balk Shipyard. This Dutch company, which is mainly engaged in yacht refit and refitting, has plans to expand Bloemsma & van Breemen's production activities.

Production .

The company's luxury yachts, motor and sailing, are manufactured at the Makkuma high-tech site, which was renovated in 2000. Two new additional assembly halls with heated floors now enable the construction of vessels up to 65 m in length. It has become a good tradition to cooperate with renowned specialists in the field of maritime architecture and design, especially Dutch ones.

Fleet

The company's attention is equally focused on both motor and sailing yachts, with models ranging in size from 18 to 48 meters. In 2011 the first commercial vessel was also launched, a high-speed 27-meter catamaran with a capacity of up to 50 people to service offshore wind farms.

In 2005, Bloemsma & van Breemen introduced the 48-metre motor yacht Flying Eagle, in which Vripack and Reymond Langton Design participated. For 2019, she is the shipyard's largest boat.

The second largest superyacht built in 2013 is the 44-meter BN141, designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder and Vripack Naval Architects. The 41-metre aluminium sailing Valquest designed by Dubois Naval Architects was launched in 2009 and was also a milestone in the company's development.

Features

The shipyard has always strived to make the most of the services, materials and equipment of the home, Dutch market. As a result, truly Dutch yachts, so highly valued in the world, descend from the slipway.
